Judge Linda M. Dunson assumed the bench of the 309th Family District Court on January 1, 2019, following the 2018 election. She was re-elected on November 8, 2022; her current term runs through 2026.
Judge Dunson’s legal background includes a Juris Doctor from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, part of Texas Southern University, and an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Houston Law Center. With a diverse educational and professional background, she is also licensed as a U.S. Customs Broker.
Before taking the bench, she worked as a solo practitioner specializing in family law. In that role, she gained hands-on experience with a broad array of family-law matters. As judge, she presides over all typical family-court matters — divorce, custody, support, adoption, protective orders, and CPS cases — under the umbrella of the 309th Court.
Judge Dunson is also notable for her court’s designation as one of the “Trauma-Informed Pilot Courts” in Texas by the Texas Children’s Commission and the state’s judiciary. This program is aimed at ensuring that court procedures take into account the impact of trauma on children and families.
