Judge Janice Berg has served as the presiding judge of the 247th Family District Court since January 1, 2019, having been elected in November 2018 and most recently re-elected in November 2022 to serve through 2026.
She earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia University in 2003 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Houston Law Center in 2008. She spent roughly eight years in private practice, focusing primarily on family law and representing clients at the trial level, in the Texas Courts of Appeals, and even before the Supreme Court of Texas.
Among her judicial priorities, Judge Berg has emphasized improving access, efficiency, and fairness in her court. According to her campaign materials, she worked to reduce the docket size of the 247th Court significantly, implemented online scheduling to help streamline hearings for litigants and attorneys, and maintained operations through the COVID-19 pandemic by adapting court procedures to ensure access and safety. She is also Board-Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization: a credential that underscores her training and commitment to family-law matters.
